In the past few months, there has been a tremendous increase in the amount of people who are working from home. Whether that’s the case for you, or if your family is just staying at home, this increase in activity around your house may have some hidden costs.

Think about your family’s daily routine, or that of your tenants. How much more energy is being consumed? How much additional water use is there? The utilities that a person typically consumes while working at an office or some other location other than home may no longer be figured into that organization’s overhead budget. However, your utility bill may be telling you where that overhead cost has gone.

Additionally, consider the overall “wear and tear” going on around your property. How have your floors, walls, and other finishes been holding up to the increased activity? What about the area surrounding your home, such as sidewalks, driveways, or yard?

While a few months may not have a tremendous impact on the cost of increased activity in your home, over time you may notice a significant increase.
