If you were to do a quick internet search of the word “fatberg”, you’d be faced with some very interesting and potentially horrifying reading and images. As you might expect, the word is used to describe a mass of congealed fat or grease that comes from people pouring bacon fat or other similar fats down their sink, only for that fat to cause tremendous issues for a city’s sewer system.
For most people who pour fat down their drains, though, it doesn’t get as far as the city’s sewer system. It can easily harden and clog up your home’s plumbing system, wreaking tremendous havoc. When it’s all said and done, the key is to never pour fat or other greases down any plumbing system drains. Instead, wait for the fat to cool and solidify in the open air, and then wipe it or scrape it into your trash bin. Your plumbing will thank you!
