If you’re coming up on the end of your roof’s lifecycle, you may want to consider the potential for investing in a cool roof. By that, we don’t mean replacing your roof with one that looks cool, we mean using a Cool Roof methodology. In short, it’s a roofing method that is designed to reflect light and absorb less heat. This can be accomplished by using reflective paint, tiles or shingles, or a special heat-reflecting membrane. As you might expect, cool roofs are especially beneficial in warm climates like Southern California.
A cool roof can help you reduce your energy bills, improve the indoor comfort level for spaces that aren’t air-conditioned, and can increase the life span of your roof. If your roof doesn’t need to be replaced right now, it’s also possible to retrofit it with specialized heat-reflective material. Of course, you’ll need to do some more research to see if a cool roof is a good fit for your home, but why not check it out?
